Henry Vaughan Emmons
Born in 1832, Evans was a lifelong friend of Emily's cousin, Jong Long Graves while they were both at Amherst college, both were in the graduating class of 1854. Emily and Emmons shared an undeniable love for poetry, and thus Emily wrote around fifteen known letters to Emmons during the years of 1853-1854. It is important to note that Emmons was a Evangelist minister and occupied several pulpits in various New England churches. This is significant because Emily was famously not a believer in God; despite familial and scholastic influences to form a relationship with religious prospects.
