Lavinia Dickinson

1833:
Lavinia Dickinson, the youngest sibling of Emily Norcross Dickinson and Edward Dickinson, was born in 1833 on February 28.
Lavinia was a Pisces, the twelfth sign in the zodiac. The Pisces is a water sign, represented by the fish and ruled by Neptune.
early life
Born only two years after her older sister Emily, Lavinia, known to friends and. family as "Vinnie", began attending Amherst Academy at age eight, two years after it's opening, with her sister Emily.
Publishing Emily:
Lavinia was instrumental in achieving the posthumous publication of her sister's poems after having discovered the forty-odd manuscripts in which Emily had collected her work. Despite promising her sister that she would destroy all correspondence and personal papers, Vinnie sought to have her sister's poetry edited and published by two of Emily's personal correspondents, Thomas Wentworth Higginson and Mabel Loomis Todd.
1899: the death of Lavinia
On August 31, 1899, Lavinia Dickinson dies in her home in Amherst, Massachusetts for an "enlarged heart"

A Love of Cats:

World Cat Day
Lavinia's third cousin, twice removed, named Emmett Lee Dickinson established World Cat Day on February 17, 1853 at her request, to honor his third cousin Lavinia Dickinson who, unlike her sister Emily, loved cats. Emmett Lee Dickinson loved cats too. Lavinia Dickinson was very appreciative of Emmett Lee’s establishment of World Cat Day – “a day when cats can think they are the rulers of the world,” she said. Inspired by his cousin's love for cats, Emmett Lee Dickinson wrote several poems about cats, including “My Human – I’ll meow”, in response, Lavinia wrote “My Maker – let me be” (below on the right).
