    Mabel Loomis Todd Born was born on November 10, 1856 in Cambridge Massachusetts.

  • David Peck Todd

    Mabel met her husband, an astronomer named David Pack Todd when she was 19, in 1877. The couple were married two years later, on March 5, 1879. The couple had one daughter together in 1880, named Millicent Todd Bingham; and in Mabel's recounts of the couple's sexual relationship she stated "Sweet communions. Oh joy! Oh! Bliss unutterable" and "A little Heaven just after dinner."

  • Move to amherst

    David and Mabel moved to Amherst shortly after their daughter was born in 1881 after David was offered a teaching position at his Alma Mater, Amherst College as an Astronomy professor. Upon moving to Amherst, Mabel began a lengthy affair with Emily's married brother Austin Dickinson. The pair took many trips together and even wrote love letters back and forth. Mabel sketched eclipses during their travels, which she later published in a book entitled: Total Eclipses of The Sun

  • 1890: Todd publishes the first edition of emily's poems: Simply poems

  • 1891: Todd publishes the second edition of emily's poems:

  • 1894: Todd publishes the two volume series:The letters of emily dickinson

    Todd initially erased Sue's name and pasted a man over the top of it, it wasnt until the 1990's that a study was done of the original letters and the true nature of the recipient was revealed to the public.

  • 1896: Todd publishes the third and final volume of Emily's poems

  • 1932: Mary Todd Loomis passes away

Total Eclipse Of The Sun:

  • 1894: Todd publishes total eclipses of the sun

    Mabel Todd Loomis publishes her book of eclipse drawings titled "Total Eclipses of The Sun". In chapter one, Todd writes; "What immortal schoolboy first noticed the curious fact that all the large rivers in Geography flowed past the largest cities?(Todd 25).     Mabel Todd Loomis had the opportunity to travel to Japan with her husband for the 1887 American Eclipse Expedition to Japan; at this time, Todd would have been engaged in an affair with Austin Dickinson for almost thirteen years. She had also just received Emily's poetry, which she would later edit and publish with the help of Thomas Wentworth Higginson.
